Song Details:
“Mysteria” from the cd “Retroscape” c2004 Marc Soucy and Kirk Bartholomew
The record “Retroscape” consists of two intertwined musical identities. Near-anthemic rock compositions based on mainly 1970’s influences, co-exist with a mostly low key, pensive presentation meant to help lull the listener into a more relaxed state. Rock that relaxes is a pretty new concept, and something who’s time has come. The production quality of the record gets constant mention by record reviewers (see CD Reviews page), as well as how “on target” the record is, i.e. it truly is “new age for rock lovers”.
This particular track is representative of the second category, where texture, meandering lines and ideas, and general atmosphere supersede the actual melodies themselves. It’s a case of the sum being greater than its parts; a cloud of weaving rock motifs that all works really well together, yet is totally unobtrusive. The mystery of how this all works just might be the reason for its title, “Mysteria”.
